5 Things to Know Before You Build A Website

There are a few things to know before you build a website. Today we are going to talk about 5 of the most important ones. Any organization, mission or voice trying to be heard in this day and age needs a website.

Did you know that a study showed that 7% of Americans do not use the internet at all. You may ask what this has to do with building a website. Well, if 7% are not using it that means that everyone else is using it. The overwhelming majority in this country use the internet regularly and according to pew research about 3/10 say they are “constantly’ online.

When you are trying to find your clients you can be sure that they are out there “surfing the net ” as anyone over 40 years old may say.  That being said, let’s talk about those 5 things to know before you build your website so you can connect with your future customers.

Know your target market

You need to be sure that you know who you are talking to. Who is going to use your product or service? Read more on this in our article “5 Effective Ways to Determine Your Target Market.”

Establish the aim of your website

Your message should be clear and concise. When someone comes to your site you don’t want them to have to waste any calories trying to figure out what the heck you can do for them. If they have to work hard just to figure out exactly what you offer they will click that X in the corner and be on to another business who communicates more clearly.

What problem are you solving

One of the most important things you can do as a business is to know what problem you are solving. How are you making life easier for them?

One of my favorite quotes is, “be the answer to their problems and they will always ask you back.” Isn’t that what we want, our customers to come back again and again? When you make it clear that you are solving their problems and making life easier for them they will come back.

Choose your domain name wisely

Naming a business can be a very personal and important part of your plan. When choosing your domain name you have to be sure that it is something easy to search. Use keywords associated with your product. Make it unique but not too out of the box or too long that people will never search it.

Make a plan….easy as 1.2.3.

Who and what do you want to display to the world? What three simple steps can you present that will clearly communicate what they are getting when they buy from you and how to do it.

When you know these steps before you build a website you can avoid some of the pitfalls of starting something new. So grab a notebook, get your brainstorming going and you are well on your way to a successful website. For more info and help getting started, start a conversation with Brilliant Impact today.
